Start with a cycled freshwater aquarium, stable conditions and shelter such as plants. Check that ammonia and nitrite are zero before adding shrimp, and take time to acclimatise them because sudden changes in water chemistry can cause shock. Compatibility depends on the fish already in your aquarium. OATA advises against mixing freshwater shrimp with predatory fish or fish large enough to swallow them. Tell us your tankmates when enquiring so you can consider whether a separate shrimp aquarium would be more suitable.
